We would like to congratulate Yves Moreau for being awarded the prestigious Einstein Foundation Award 2023 (Individual Award) for his work on genomic surveillance and promoting quality in research! Professor Moreau works towards fostering an ethical culture of digital humanism in the tech community.
In receiving the award, Professor Moreau cited that the road to this award started in 2016 when he read about Kuwait infamous DNA law mandating the creation of a DNA database of all residents and visitors of Kuwait. He joined the large-scale deployment international and national efforts that had started against such law and reached out to The European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG), which was directly involved as an International non-profit organization to give its expertise on the importance of preserving genetic privacy and human rights and their expert opinion was submitted by our firm in the challenge of the DNA law filed by our Managing Partner Adel Abdulhadi in front of the constitutional court. Such law was repealed in 2017.
After Kuwait, Professor Moreau focused on Xinjiang and Tibet and he recognized all people who pushed hard to give these issues visibility and expressed that he would like this award to be an encouragement to all of us to keep pushing for ethical research.
Congratulations again and Al Oula Law team wishes Yves Moreau success in all future activities seeking to preserve and protect scientific ethics.
